Pose Vault provides high-resolution, royalty-free, dynamic figure reference images for artists. If you're studying figure drawing, or in need of reference for your personal or commercial illustration projects, this is the place for you.
Why do you use 3d models?
The high quality, custom morphed 3d models we use provide more flexibility and versatility than live model photo reference. Without gravity to contend with, we can get a better angle on tough poses without needing to balance the models precariously on chairs or other supports. We are able to easily get tough shots, such as directly above and directly below the model, and 3d models in a blank environment also provide very clean images with simple lines, making them ideal for referencing complex and group poses.
360 degrees? What\'s that about?
Capturing poses from every single degree would result in a lot of almost-identical images. Instead, we capture from between 15 and 65 angles while rotating the model 360 degrees on eye level plus bird's-eye, and worm's-eye views. Many poses also have straight-down and straight-up shots from above and below. Whatever pose you need, we have the perfect angle for you.
How does the site work?
We operate on a monthly subscription model, as well as offering a number of free high-res reference images. For more info, and to compare plans, visit our Subscription page.
How many images are included in each pose set?
Up to 65 images are included in each set, depending on the complexity of the pose, with most falling into the 25-35 range. A very simple standing pose gets fewer captures, as many of the angles end up looking very similar. Complex poses with a lot of foreshortening, or multiple-models, get a higher number of captures.
How large are the images?
Each image is 3000x3000 pixels in dimension, with the model(s) filling the majority of the frame width and height.
How can I use the images?
Pose Vault images are royalty-free, and almost unlimited. You can use them as the basis for any personal or commercial derivative work---reference, paint-overs, digital manipulation, whatever you need. We only ask that the images are not redistributed in their original form, without substantial modification. For all the details, check out our Content License Agreement.
Can I get free images?
A selection of high-res images from various sets are offered on our Freebies page, along with one free 46 image set.
What subscription plans do you offer?
We offer Student, Artist, and Professional level subscription plans. Student and Artist subscriptions are limited to a single user, and are subject to download limits. The Professional plan, suitable for artist groups and small illustration/design companies, has a multi-seat license, and comes with a much higher download limit. For more info on the plans, and to compare, visit our Subscription page.
